Aprimary directive of any teachers to help prepare students tomeet the challenges they will facein their daily lives. Many of thehigh school and college students weteach have had so much "handed tothem" and assume this will continuewith little or no effort on their part.Members of this "me" generation areencouraged by everything aroundthem to focus more on relationships,social status, and physical attributes,receiving less encouragement to focuson their intellectual development andpreparation to compete in a globaleconomy. The recent economic woesof the country may serve as a wake-upcall to our students and their fami-lies, giving us the support we need toignite a passion for learning in our students.
