The microstructure that is formed in single crystals of titanium of various purity under the effect of weak strains caused by beta - > alpha phase transformation and thermal stresses accompanying growth of single crystals of the a modification in a steady-state regime has been studied. The rate of twinning on (0001) planes of single-crystal samples grown by float-zone electron-beam melting has been shown to directly depend on the concentration of interstitial impurities in titanium.
