MODELLING THE MSA - A TRIBUTE TO LYN WADLEY

This is the second volume in the South African Archaeological Society Goodwin Series that has celebrated the career and contribution of an individual archaeologist. The first was, appropriately, a posthumous reminder of the legacy of John Goodwin himself who first proposed the term 'Middle Stone Age'. The present volume is dedicated to Lyn Wadley by her students and colleagues who have shared her enthusiasm and passion for modelling aspects of Middle Stone Age technology and environments. Lyn Wadley is without doubt one of the most conscientious Stone Age archaeologists in Africa and her dedication has resulted in a deeper understanding over the past 30 years of both the Later Stone Age and the Middle Stone Age. The analysis and results have been shared by a wide range of researchers. Her career and the impact of her work and that of her students is the subject of this introductory paper.
