Generally, small animal theriogenology is a rewarding subspecialty in veterinary medicine. Although demanding of the clinician's time and expertise, the breeder client tends to be loyal and compliant. A good reproductive practice generates its own referrals, and usually is busy. Obstetrics and pediatrics are undeniably rewarding parts of the specialty. Theriogenology incorporates the interesting fields of reproductive physiology, endocrinology, embryology, genetics, metabolism, nutrition, critical care, anesthesia, pharmacology, and anatomy. The theriogenologist's practice is uniquely medical and surgical.
