Archaeology remains a main avenue through which Zimbabweans may know their past in all its multifaceted complexity. Yet, it remains a largely unappreciated and unknown discipline to the general public for whom it purports to work. Thus, the local publication of this fourteen-chapter volume should be warmly welcomed, especially as the last synthesis on Zimbabwean archaeology (Pwiti 1997) was never widely available to university outsiders.
