UKIA CONFERENCE - IRRIGATION MUST TACKLE BIG ISSUES

The UK Irrigation Association's annual conference in Peterborough in March tackled the large water demand of the fresh produce industry head on by asking, 'if we should use of scare water to grow more fruit and vegetables in the UK?' It was a questionthat, newly re-elected NFU President Peter Kendall answered with an emphatic yes. Thanks to a new strategic focus on food security and nutrition, he said that, "The whole level of debate is giving optimism about making investment in our farms. "Extrapolating climate change, we ought to be more favourably affected than many other countries."
