This study was carried out in randomized complete block design for the field experiment and CRD for the laboratory experiment with five treatments such as TI-control (unfertilized); T2-32 kg N/ha; T3-52 Kg N/ha; t4-72 kg N/ha; T5-92 kg N/ha, replicated four times. Increasing rate of nitrogen application (32-92 kg/ha) increased plant height and number of productive tillers while biomass had its optimum at 32 kg N/ha (minimum rate). On the other hand, number of unproductive tillers per hi!l, grain yield and yield components, harvest index, seed viability, seed purity analysis, and moistrue content were not affected by the different rates of nitrogen applied at 5 DBPI. Based on the result, application of higher N levels at 5 DBPI increased disease occurrence and made plants prone to lodging. Furthermore, rice seeds (Rc-18) applied with 92 kg N/ha can be subjected to ageing up to 4 days. The application of 90 kg N/ha during this period produced seedlings of high vigor.
