Treatment of seasonal headshaking in three horses with sodium cromoglycate eye drops.

Three horses in the UK exhibited headshaking behaviour when brought into the light [date not given]. The condition recurred during the spring (1 case) and summer (2 cases). Two of the horses also exhibited increased blink reflexes and milk mucoid ocular discharge. The horses were treated with sodium cromoglycate (Opticrom) eye drops at 1 drop per eye 4 times daily. All cases significantly improved after treatment. The condition was suggestive of an allergic condition such as allergic conjunctivitis.
