Johnson & Johnson's Aveeno brand is the target of two pending class-action lawsuits in separate states-one citing its Natural Protection sunscreens and the other its Active Naturals personal-care formulas-both alleging the misleading use of "natural" claims. The lawsuits, the latest related to "natural" personal-care claims on packaging and in advertising, are seeking class-action status in Connecticut and New York. Langan vs. J&J was filed in the U.S. District Court in Connecticut Oct. 7. The case was brought by a Connecticut woman who claims the firm profited from "unfair" and "deceptive" business practices by marketing sunscreen products as "natural" when they contain a number of synthetic ingredients.
