Supplementary prescribing and access to medical records:(2) Access rights of patients and others

The first article in this series(pf,28 June,p902) began the process of examining the existing legal duties and responsibilities ascribed to those currently responsible for the keeping and maintenance of medical records relating to their patients.This article will continut that process by analysing the current rights of patients and others to have access to the information contained in those records.Doctors who are under a duty to keep and maintain medical records are under a parallel duty to ensure that such records remain confidential The duty of confiednce is not absolute however and might lawfuly be abrogated in certain circumatances.
