In the United Kingdom people aged over 65 years constitute 18 per cent of the population and receive 45 per cent of all prescription items, 78 per cent of whicha re repeats. In Bradford people over 65 years of age constitute 14.3 per cent of the pouplation, whilst the over 75s make up 6.3 per cent. The over 75 year olds are targeted for medical screening programmes and periodic review.
