Self-care'should be the default setting'

Self-care is the natural setting for health care and should be its"default setting",Niall Dickson,chief executive of the King's Fund,said in his introduction to the conference.It should be considered part of a continuum from the daily choices people make,in which there is total individual responsibility,through self-managed ailments and acute conditions,to major trauma,in which patients abdicate responsibility to medical professionals.
