Every September, as we grease-up the combine and put new points on the digger-shaker, the age-old question of peanut farmers can be heard, "Should I dig now or wait another week?" Many times that question is answered for us in the form of a tropicalstorm or hurricane as we rush to the field to dig or, as often is the case, ride out the storm and pray for the fields to hurry and dry out. But, almost ideal harvest conditions in 2005 and the lack of any tropical weather whatsoever in 2006 had many producers weighing the option of yield versus grade. Which one is most important, and which combination will result in the most profit at the buying point?
