Contact Herbicides: A study of timing and application for control of Palmer amaranth

Palmer amaranth is one of the most troublesome weeds in the Southeast with its ability to produce in excess of 400,000 seeds per plant and double in size within four days during peak growing conditions. Palmer amaranth is also an avid competitor. Research from North Carolina State University has shown that one Palmer plant per three feet of row can reduce peanut yield by 30 percent. To further complicate matters, Palmer amaranth has also been found to be resistant to Cadre, the most effective and consistent herbicide for control.
