Successful Nesting of Loggerhead Shrikes at Buena Vista Grasslands in Portage County, Wisconsin, 2013

During the summer of 2013, a pair of Loggerhead Shrikes (Lanius ludovi- cianus) nested and successfully fledged 3 young at Buena Vista Grasslands (BVG) in Portage County, Wisconsin, marking only the second breeding record for the county. As a State Endangered species, it is important to take note of its nesting attempts. I have documented the phenology of this Loggerhead Shrike family from observations over the course of 11 visits to their nesting site between 29 May and 7 August. I also describe the breeding biology and habitat use of the adult Loggerhead Shrikes in BVG and compare it to pertinent studies and articles.
