The influence of temperature on the development of Orius similis Zheng (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) was examined in laboratory and the effect of temperature and photoperiod on its predation activity against Aphis gossypii Glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae) was reported. Developmental period of all stages of O. similis decreased as temperature increased. Relative mortality rate (RMR) revealed that high temperatures caused high mortality, particularly deleterious to egg and nymph at 34 degrees C. Adult females lived longer than adult male at the same temperature. The main factor affecting the predation activity of O. similis was temperature; photoperiod had no significant difference on the predation activity. Our results showed that the most optimal temperature for laboratory rearing of Orius was 28-31 degrees C and the most optimal temperature for releasing O. similis in the field was 30-35 degrees C..
