Siempelkamp Pressen Systeme has begun operation of a prototype Sheet Hydroforming system, sponsored by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Different process alternatives are being tested at the installation site at the University of Dortmund Institute for Forming Technology. The cast graphite iron frame, which is prestressed by means of spring steel wire, absorbs the new prototype's closing force of 11,200 tons. The frame measures 6.7 by 2.9 by 1.7 m.
