Harmonising Due Diligence of Refractory Contractors and WHS Legislation

Compliance with the new WHS Act 2011 and the WHS Regulations 2011 for the small to medium size refractory contractor can be an onerous and daunting task. It is observed that in many organisations the reality check of these obligations only comes after a reportable incident has occurred. The task of compliance receives little or token effort due possibly due to resource impacts and a belief that a serious injury is unlikely to happen in my organization. Refractory work now falls into the category of 'high risk' and as such specific mandatory requirements under the Act requires officers of the company to exercise due diligence. This paper and presentation hope to allay any fears and demonstrate resources that can assist and lead the refractory contractor to higher levels of safety and quality service delivery.
