摘要

Obesity is a multidetermined disease with genetic, environmental, and behavioral influences. Hyperphagia and limited physical activity contribute to positive energy balance and, thus, are the most direct behavioral determinants of body weight. These factors, however, are also symptoms of various psychological disorders and can be used as means of coping with psychological distress. In addition, the chronic stress that can be associated with excess adiposity-attributable to stigma, medical comorbidities, quality of life impairments, or other factors-may also predispose obese persons to psychopathology.
