PROJECT INVESTMENT NORMS FOR FAST-TRACK CLEARANCE LIKELY TO BE LOWERED

In an effort to boost investment, the Rs. 1,000-crore cap for projects to be placed before the Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) may be lowered to Rs. 500-cr. The Government has also asked industry chambers to suggest changes in the project approval process.Earlier in December, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) wrote to the Prime Minister requesting a change in norms. The investment committee takes up projects involving investments of Rs. 1,000-cr or more, or any other critical projects in sectors such as infrastructure and manufacturing.
