The World Cancer Report has stated that cancer rates could increase 50% by the year 2020. Paclitaxol is a naturally occurring chemical found in Taxus plants used to combat cancer. While taxus plants grow in several areas around the world, wild harvesting practices have been banned or not commercially viable in all but Canada. The demand for the drug has been projected to increase yearly by 20% for the next several years.
