Dead wood and its role in nature conservation and forestry-a Turkish perspective

The depauperate nature of the dead wood resource and the implications of this for nature conservation are well established issues and concerns. Speight (1986) for example raised this at a European level, and the important volume by Kirby and Drake (1993) brings together many of the issues-though for a largely UK audience. Issues relating to the importance of forest dead wood for fungi are also presently being debated (Ted Green pers. comm. via eds.).
