In this Journal of Physiology Annual Report we look back on 2011 - a year that has seen the appointment of a new Editor-in-Chief and some important changes to the Board and our content. New ventures take time to plan and execute, and so we also look forward to changes in the coming year. First, we are pleased to announce further improvements in the ISI metrics published last June. A central policy of The Journal of Physiology is to publish only those papers that make a significant impact in the field. The rise in The Journal's 2010 ISI impact factor to 5.139 confirms the success of this policy, and we will maintain this key criterion for acceptance. The longevity and importance of the papers we publish is also evident in the 10 year cited half-life of The Journal and the total citations count of over 47,000. The Journal of Physiology was the most cited journal in the ISI physiology category in 2010.
