Wisdom follows age! So they say. Yet, despite being older I am still unable to detect any evidence of increased wisdom. As my father turned 70, then 75, then 80 he said "I don't know; I don't feel any older." Now I turn 70 and find myself repeating the same thing. I don't feel older and certainly don't know if I am wiser. Despite this reservation, I do believe experience can bring a certain kind of wisdom that I would like to share. Wisdom should not belong solely in the province of old men! A few weeks ago a patient presented with a skin lesion of the forearm. What was remarkable was the patient's agitation. He lucidly described how he picks his skin and how he caused the lesion, how his physician treated him multiple times with antibiotics, and how the lesion will not heal. He then anxiously thrust his iPhone at me with an article about a disease of the skin caused by crustaceans. A cursory exam of his forearms revealed the eroded nodule in question, as well as numerous scars from previous lesions.
