DUPONT OPENS CELLULOSIC ETHANOL PLANT IN US

US-based DuPont has opened a cellulosic biofuel facility in Nevada, Iowa, US; considered to be the world's largest cellulosic ethanol plant. The biorefinery has the capacity to produce 30 million gallons per year of clean fuel, representing a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when compared to gasoline. The new plant will use raw materials such as corn stover, including the stalks, leaves and cobs, which are left in the field after harvest, to produce ethanol. With the facility, DuPont is looking to demonstrate at commercial scale that non-food feedstocks from agriculture can be the renewable raw material to power the future energy demands of society.
