In our letter1 commenting upon data published by Jack Stapieton's group, the statements questioned by Stapleton and colleagues were taken from a paper published by Stapieton's group.3 Our reference to the multisite Amsterdam Cohort Study1-4 does not relate to their 2004 paper in the New England journal of Medicine.7 The scientific community is more anxious than ever to seethe emergence of potential new treatments. Forthis reason research workers in Amsterdam,5 Malmo,5 Bonn/ and other centres have devoted substantial resources to validate the various findings by Stapleton and associates.
