The value of tracking antibiotic consumption

Antibiotic resistance is increasing, particularly in middle-income countries where growing antibiotic consumption is driving resistance. Networks such as European Surveillance on Antibiotics Consumption Network database maintained by the European Centre for Disease Control for European Union (EU) countries and ResistanceMap in the USA have enabled greater understanding of patterns of antibiotic use in high-income countries, but there are gaps in data from other regions.
