A 19-year-old male was riding a dirt bike when he struck a horizontally placed chain-linked metal fence across his upper abdomen at an undetermined speed. He was thrown from the bike with no reported loss of consciousness. En route to the hospital, the patient remained hemodynamically stable. On presentation to the trauma bay, the patient complained of severe abdominal and lower chest pain. Primary survey revealed intact airway, clear breath sounds bilaterally, 2+ distal pulses, and a Glascow Coma Scale score of 15.
