2010 Tennessee Ornithological Society Traditional Spring Counts

This report summarizes the traditional spring bird counts that typically are run on dates other than the North American Migration Count date, which is always the second Saturday in May. These counts sometimes cover more than one county and sometimes cover more than one day. This year 134 observers on 9 counts put in 454:39 party hours, which produced 49,139 individuals, representing 191 species. The species total this year is below the recent average of about 203. Most counts experienced some precipitation and a couple of counts had some strong winds and heavy rains. Temperatures ranged from 44 to 85° F.
