The pencil tin problem

After finishing a Maths lesson on differentiation, I was staring at mypencil and absent-mindedly started to twist it around my fingers. If I twirledit around the centre then the two ends would create two cones of equalvolume. My eye then fell on a small cylindrical pencil tin and various ideassprang into my mind.
