While there was some controversy at a recent public meeting in Toronto on changes to Ontario's Mining Act, there was also a great deal of consensus - especially on the need for consultation with First Nations. First Nations representatives also made an eloquent case for their communities to share the revenues from mining in their areas. Part of a series of province-wide consultations, Michael Gravelle, Ontario's Minister of Northern Development and Mines was at the meeting held in early September, seeking suggestions and comments from the public.
