α-Glucosidase inhibitory compounds from Aeschynanthus superbus

Aeschynanthus superbus belongs to the Gesneriaceae family and is found in the region of south of China. It is also distributed in northeast of India [1]. Phytochemical research of the Gesneriaceae family showed that flavonoids, terpenes, phenylpropanoids, and aromatic compounds were the main compounds [2-5]. Pharmacological studies of Aeschynanthus mengxingensis showed that it had antioxidant activity [6]. A. mengxingensis and Aeschynanthus longicaullis had α-glucosidase inhibitory activity in vitro [7]. However, no research has so far been conducted concerning the α-glucosidase inhibitory compounds from A. superbus.
