Capparis spinosa L. belongs to the Capparidaceae family. This green spiny shrub grows wildly in Xinjiang Autonomous Region of the P. R. China and is distributed throughout the Mediterranean basin. It has been used as a traditional Chinese medicine to remedy chronic rheumatic arthritis and gout for centuries. Previous chemical studies have reported that alkaloids, flavonoids, organic acids, lipids, polyphenols, indole, and glucosinolates were isolated from C. spinosa [1]. In search of new bioactive constituents, we conducted a systematic isolation and identification of the fruit of C. spinosa, which led to the isolation of 8-hydroxy-2-oxo-2H-chromene-4-carboxylic acid (1), vanillic acid (2), octadecanoic acid (3), n-hexadecanoic acid (4), oxalic acid (5), and p-hydroxybenzoic acid (6).
