Ralstonia spp. are non-fermentative Gram-negative bacilli that have been isolated from environmental sources and sporadically involved in human infections. Although Ralstonia spp. such as Rastonia pickettii and Rastonia paucula have not been considered as significant human pathogens, in recent years there has been an increasing number of reports challenging our understanding of the clinical significance of these bacteria. Pseudobacteraemia has been used as a term for positive blood cultures in the absence of true bacteraemia. Ralstonia pseudobacteraemia has been reported in association with contamination of intravenous solutions, antiseptics and water. To our knowledge, this is the first report of an outbreak of pseudobacteraemia with R. paucula.
