Flavonols from the stem bark of Acer komarovii

Acer komarovii (rubripes maple), a rare maple species growing in Korea, has a narrow distribution from the Korean peninsula to northeast China and Russia. This species grows on higher mountain slopes, dry bluffs, or foothills, but reaches high elevations (~1500 m) in Korea [1]. Previous studies on the genus Acer have demonstrated the presence of a variety of compounds including flavonoids [2-4], diarylheptanoids [5, 6], phenylethyl glycosides [3, 6], and lignans [6-8]. However, phytochemical or biological studies of A. komarovii have not been reported previously. In this paper, we describe the isolation and structural elucidation of two flavonols and nine flavonol glycosides. All of them were isolated from this plant for the first time.
