Essays in Honor of Professor Stephen Mick

It is with great pleasure that we present this theme issue of the Journal of Health Administration Education – Essays in Honor of Stephen S. Farnsworth Mick, PhD, FACHE. With the announced retirement of Professor Mick, several colleagues and friends (and if the former, so often the latter!) began thinking of ways to recognize his contributions to our field. Recurring themes included his contributions to our understanding of the field through his research, and his mentorship of a generation of scholars. The selected way to recognize his contributions is this issue of the Journal, with research papers written by some of his former doctoral students. Eddie Miller, Chris Wise and Walter Wodchis, graduates of the University of Michigan, and Mark Diana and Patrick Shay, graduates of Virginia Commonwealth University, were selected from among his many students as the authors for this issue. Each prepared a manuscript inspired by their association with Professor Mick. We hope that Professor Mick will enjoy the issue as much as his colleagues in health administration education.
