The term 'two-finger tightness' is commonly used by orthopaedic surgeons to define how much torque should be used to tighten certain bone screws, for example those used in bones that are osteoporotic or comminuted, or for small screws regardless of bone quality without having the screw strip in a bone. We suspected that wide variations in torque occur by using the 'two-finger tightness' concept, which may lead to stripping of a screw or inadequate screw fixation. We conducted a study to quantify the torque produced by the 'two-finger tightness' concept.
