We appreciate Dr Freshwater's thoughtful comments and questions regarding our manuscript. In answer to his questions, Vicryl Rapide (Ethicon) is indeed more expensive (?6.72 per suture] than Novafil (Covidien; ?5.51 per suture). For the purpose of this study, our follow-up routine consisted of suture removal (in case of Novafil] at 2 weeks and a wound review, in case of Vicryl Rapide, as well as recording of the discomfort associated with sutures falling out spontaneously. This was followed by scar review at 6-8 weeks for both groups.
