A two-year Clemson University study has shown that growers can save a significant amount of water and possibly produce a better crop by adopting precision agriculture techniques.During the first year of the study, researchers monitored a peach grove to determine normal practices or the "grower standard," says Greg Henderson, Clemson County Extension agent for commercial tree fruit on the Ridge in Edgefield, S.C.During the second year, the block was split into two zones.One was irrigated based on the grower standard, the other using a soil moisture index "trigger" that researchers developed based on data from the first year.
