In November 2002, Committee FP-021 Fire Safety Audits met for the first time to revise the Interim Standard AS 4555(Int)-2002, Guidelines for fire safety audits for buildings. The revised Standard will be re-named Fire safety audits and will provide a structured process for the conduct of fire safety audits against nominated benchmarks and a defined process for owners of a facility and other stakeholders to define the scope, depth and methodology of the audit. Fire safety audits are undertaken for a variety of reasons, such as to show compliance with legislation including the Building Code of Australia, Fire Brigades Acts and OH&S legislation. They might also be undertaken to show due diligence pre-purchase or sale, as part of a risk management program, for insurance reasons, as a gap analysis against current legislation or Standards or as part of a periodic and ongoing audit program. The audit may be initiated by the owner or manager of the facility, or by a statutory authority.
