WORK BEGINS THIS MONTH on a new International Standard giving guidelines on social responsibility. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) expects the Standard to be published in early 2008. 32 ISO member countries including Australia, will participate in developing the new Standard. The job will be done by the specially created ISO Working Group on Social Responsibility which will hold its first meeting on 7-11 March 2005 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Strong support for ISO to launch a social responsibility Standard has come from its developing country members and in assigning the leadership of the social, responsibility working group, ISO chose to twin the national standards institute of a developing country, Brazil (ABNT), with that of an industrialised one, Sweden (SIS).
