The Committee for the sampling of minerals is considering a proposal to develop a guide to the sampling of contaminated sites. Existing Standards on this subject cover the surveying of such sites, but do not give any indication of means for taking representative samples. The proposed guide would allow practitioners to collate and develop field strategies and analytical methodology associated with sampling from a site such as an old mine or an area of industrial waste. Any resultant Standard or guide would be complementary to AS 4482.1 Guide to the sampling and investigation of potentially contaminated soil, Part I: Non-volatile and semi-volatile compounds, prepared by Committee EV-009, and would assume that most of the processes outlined in AS 4482.1 had been carried out for setting the parameters of a reasonably general sample design.
