Among the various biotechnologies for improvement of productivity in dairy animals Embryo Transfer Technology (ETT) plays an important role. ETT hastens the genetic improvement by virtue of its capacity to reduce the generation interval. Due. to possibility of maximizing elite females utility, the genetic gain in both sexes is possible in this technique. It is also useful in progeny testing programme due to reduction in generation interval. This technology is already familiar to livestock farmers of developed countries. However, for its standardization, attempts are being made in developing countries also. In India for the conservation of elite indigenous breeds which are on the verge of extinction ETT will play a vital role (Ramamohan Rao, 1988). With view of testing success of ETT in Gir and its crosses, a study was conducted under farm conditions. As certain level of progesterone production is a prerequisite for normal embryonic development and pregnancy, serum progesterone was estimated from blood serum of ETT recipients on 7(th), 15(th), 21(st), 30(th) and 45(th) day post-oestrus for diagnosis of early pregnancy and early embryonic death in ETT recipients.
