Abortion and loss of young due to canine Herpes virus-1 infection in breeding bitches.

This study was conducted to determine the aetiology of high mortality rate in new born puppies and the cause of abortion in 10 Golden Retriever bitches, 2-7 years old. Each of the 10 bitches had different serum antibody titres (1:241 to 1:421) and all values were higher than the international limits, while the sera proved to be negative to antibodies related to different microorganisms. The 10 bitches with a history of abortion were clinically healthy and were not showing any pathological signs. However, serologically high antibody titre for canine Herpesvirus-1 was observed indicating that the abortion could be due to Herpesvirus..
