Economics of body growth in Barbari goats under intensive, semi-intensive and extensive systems of management

A study was conducted to assess the growth performance of Barbari goats and its economics under intensive, semi-intensive and extensive systems of management at University Research Farms, Madhavaram in Tamilnadu. Totally 24 Barbari kids were selectedat random and divided into three groups, comprising 8 kids in each group. Barbari goats maintained under semi-intensive system recorded significantly (P<0.01) higher body weight (17.66+-1.78 kg) followed by intensive system (15.92+-2.03 kg) and extensive system (12.89+-0.92 kg). The semi-intensive system of goat rearing recorded the lower cost of Rs.53.89 per kg meat production compared to Rs.65.95 per kg in the intensive system.
