22% rise in export orders for German machinery makers

Germany's national textile machinery makers association, part of VDMA, says that its members saw a "clear increase in orders" last year as compared to a dismal experience in 2001. Orders booked in 2002 were 22% up a year ago, pushing average order books to 4.8 months at the year-end from 3.1 months at the end of 2001, said VDMA. A strong rise in export orders provided the impetus for the improvement, with the total value of export oders shipped last year up 5% to 3.7 billion.
