The efficacy of Vitavax 200 WS (carboxin; 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0 g/kg of seeds), Vitavax 75 WP (2.5 g/kg) and thiram 75 WS (3.0 g/kg), applied to seeds at 24 h before sowing, against B. sorokiniana [Cochliobolus sativus] and A. triticina in wheat (cultivars PBW 373 and HUW 234) was evaluated in Karnal and Cooch Behar, Haryana, India, during 2003-04. Vitavax 200 WS at all rates completely eradicated B. sorokiniana and A. triticina in Karnal, and significantly reduced the incidence of both pathogens in Cooch Behar. Vitavax 200 WS was more effective than thiram 75 WS in the enhancement of seedling vigour (root and shoot length) and seed germination in Karnal. In Cooch Behar, thiram 75 WS was more effective in the improvement of these parameters except seed germination, which did not significantly vary among the fungicides. The highest yields were obtained with 3.0 g Vitavax 200 WS/kg (6.55 t/ha) and 2.5 g Vitavax 75 WP (6.48 t/ha) in Karnal, and with 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 kg Vitavax 200 WS/kg (3.63, 3.58 and 3.68 t/ha) in Cooch Behar..
