A review of literature that exists on the vibrations of shells shows that damped motions of shell roofs have not yet received in much attention. To fill this gap, the authors have attempted to use an eight noded shell bending element for analyzing damped forced motions of cylindrical shell roofs. Sanders' strain displacement relationships, mass matrix including rotatory inertia and damping matrix developed using Rayleigh's approach are used. Damping ratios and transient load cases are varied for obtaining the dynamic magnification factors for defections and other important critical shell actions. The results are examined meticulously to identify the significant conclusions.
