Hutchinsons are launching another new, unique and revolutionary technology for the benefit of fruit growers, Omnia Fruit Vision, a system that accurately counts and grades apples while on the tree.Oliver Wood, Precision Technology Manager, explains that this innovative and exciting technology can count each individual apple on the tree, with up to 98% accuracy, and can also size them into different grades. "This revolutionary Fruit Vision system,which is available only to Hutchinsons, consists of a specialist optical sensing system, mounted on a quad bike, which takes 20 images per second as it passes through the orchard at 6-8km/hour. It logs exactly where each apple is and what size it is. This information is downloaded and analysed by the Omnia software system and growers get a precise report on their crop yield and quality. This is an amazing and unique system which delivers exactly what growers want and we are looking to develop its capabilities further."
