Kent apple grower successfully employs Dutch picking technology

Bin trains have some significant advantages over conventional picking, hence their rapid growth in popularity in recent years. But they have one notable failing in that they do not eliminate the main causes of bruising that occurs when fruit is dropped into picking bags and tipped into bins. Kent grower Charles Highwood finds that this shortcoming is avoided with the Munckhof Pluk-O-Trak. Having used two of these 30,000 machines, supplied by Kent Fruit Services, for two seasons, he reckons that theyare a "more sensible alternative" to the two 5-bin trains that he bought several years ago.
